I Got The Blues

I'm really feeling this versatile shade lately.  From super light sky blue, which I won't bust out because it feels unnatural given that it's 30 degrees outside, to inky rich dark blue, which is the star today, blues are rocking my world.

I picked up Essie Midnight Cami on some can't remember it now website months ago when I became obsessed with the fall shade.  By itself, it's this gorgeous, deeply shimmered midnight ink blue.  Just gorgeous and so dark it looks black if you're not in the right light.  I've also been trying to go through my pile of hexes purchased also months ago, and I thought my giant pot of silver holo hexes would be a fitting topper to the blue.

The worst part about working with hex glitter is not getting them on, but getting them to stay put.  The method here was two thin coats of color, one thin coat of quick set topcoat, a super thin coat of non quick dry topcoat to adhere the hexes, and then two coats of Gelous for some building stay power.

Yikes.  My hands just feel heavier typing all of that out.  Time will tell, but I'd love all the glitter to stay in place one 24 hour period.  Or even just through a bout of hyper obsessive hand washing at work tomorrow, with the flu avoiding I've been trying to do lately.

Forgive the alien skin tone - needed a lot of color adjustment on this one to atone for the awful shadow.

A Pretty Mild Disco

Purple and green is probably my favorite color combination.  I like playing with light purple/dark green, dark purple/light green, frosts, glitters, you name it.  They were also the colors we used for the wedding many, but not so many years ago (awwwwwwwwwwwwww!) and I love them still.

The polish was one of the gifts Ulta was handing out during the holiday Buy 2 Get 1, OPI Gift Cards For Everyone!  It's a dark purple with blue shimmer that's, apparently, pretty hard to photograph.  It's lovely and thick in one coat, but I'm not careful so I did two.  I have a whole box of hex glitter to use, and I thought I'd whip a new tub out for today's manicure in the peridot green color.

I used a toothpick dipped in topcoat to place the hexes in a kind of alternating row pattern, shellacked two coats of quick dry on top, and called it a day.

It may look like I missed one on my ring finger but I assure you - I did not.

Oh disco green, why must you torture me with only looking good in tiny doses!

The Nailasaurus Is My Idol

Not only does she make killer designs on her nails, but her nails are tres chic short!  She's a lady who respects the fingerpads, and for that, I am forever grateful.  Sammy the Nailasaurus, you are the best.

Groveling aside, I had read a couple of her "glequin" posts, also known as hex glitter, and threw my money at the Internet to get a set of my own in a few colors.  The day the package came in, I sat down to do a variation of what she has mastered, and I was fairly impressed with it, for a first try!

In the shade, it almost looks black, or maybe a deep burgundy, and those babies are G-O-L-D.

Holo!  Shimmer!  Favorite Brown!  GENIUS GORGEOUS (a little crooked) FLAWLESS LOVELY!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I stared at my hands all day.  No lie.  Both hands took maybe fifteen minutes, and I think with a little practice, I can get them fairly straight.  Just pour a few out, dip a toothpick in some topcoat, coat your nail, and get to it.  The possibilities are endless, so expect to see a lot of hex art in the coming weeks.  I love it.
